Buying at a card show
- Bring a want-list. A show floor is built to make you buy what is in front of you; a list keeps you buying what you came for.
- Check sold prices, not asking prices. What a seller is asking is the top of the range, and a recent sale is what the card is worth.
- Look at corners, edges, centring and the surface under the light before you pay. Condition moves a raw card's price more than anything else.
- Know your cash-or-card position. Many tables are cash only or charge a surcharge on card, and cash in hand is often worth a better price.
- Graded slabs: check the cert number on the grader's site before you hand over money.
