Buyer Matthew Allen, principal of Secure Collectibles, confirmed the price himself: "The card just resonated deep with me." The kicker: the physical card doesn't even exist yet — it's still a redemption.
What's actually on this card?
Two game-worn Gold Logoman patches, two autographs — English on top, Japanese kanji below. The first patch came off Ohtani's jersey from a road game in Baltimore on 7 September 2025, the night he hit two home runs. The second is from 12 April 2026 at Dodger Stadium, when he went deep off Jacob deGrom.
The card was pulled from a jumbo box at Boca Sports Cards in Boca Raton, Florida on 29–30 July 2026 by an anonymous collector in his 30s who bought ten jumbo boxes, per Sports Collectors Daily. What is the Gold Logoman programme?
Topps, MLB, and Nike launched it in March 2025. Award winners — MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year — wear a gold-embellished MLB logo patch on the back collar of their game jerseys. MLB authenticates each patch directly off the worn jersey; Topps then inserts it whole into the card.
Ohtani wore the first-ever gold patch in the Dodgers' pre-season exhibition against the Yomiuri Giants. His back-to-back NL MVPs in 2024 and 2025 are why this card exists.
